Audley Mothers Union
meet at Audley Church Hall on some Thursday evenings125 Years of Mothers Union throught the World
June 2001 sees the 125th anniversary of the Mothers Union, started in the village of Alresford near Winchester in 1876 by Mary Summner, the wife of the Rector of the parish. Her own experience of motherhood made her aware of how little preparation and support women received for their vital role as mothers.
This led her to invite some 30 or 40 local mothers to discuss the possibility of meeting regularly in order to help one another create a nurturing home environment in which their children could develop both physically and spiritually. Prayer and practical action were at the heart of this union of mothers.
70 Years of Mother Union in Audley.
This year sees the 70th anniversary of the Mothers Union in the Audley parish, Mrs Burnett the wife of the then Vicar, seeing the benefits, formed a branch in this parish. There are currently 28 members who meet on a monthly basis on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7-15pm in the Church Hall .
Christian speakers and activities take part at the meetings and the Mothers Union is supportive of both young and old in the fellowship, always ready to encourage and support families and people who are struggling with their Christian faith.
Prizes for the Sunday school pupils are supplied by the Mothers Union as well as short breaks away for mothers who are needing a break, the Friday coffee morning in the Church Hall is also a popular activity, indeed the Mothers Union is always at the forefront of the many activities held at Church and anyone who is baptised would be made most welcome to join.
